Solar vs. coal power and technology development needs

I have just downloaded and read a very good PPT presentation for
solar power by Khosla Ventures; you can download the presentation at
http://www.khoslaventures.com/resources.html. It is called "Making
Coal Obsolete".

If you are interested in how much damage coal emissions do to the
environment, this is a must-read. Just to give you an idea, for every
single ton of coal which is burned, three tons of carbon dioxide are
released into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the single emission
most responsible for global warming, which is now accelerating at a
pace than most of the models have predicted.

China Pain Point

At yesterday's meeting, John Song discussed finding pain points and
offering solutions for them.

On this trip to China, I found one common pain point for companies was
retaining people with 7-10 years' working experience in China,
especially in the sales field. Turnover ratios are very high, with
turnover for successful mid-management people in sales running at 20%.
All companies are looking for a solution to this challenge.

Recent China trip

I got back two weeks ago from a one-month trip to China (Beijing,
Shanghai, Wuxi). During the trip, I met with Victor Mao in BJ, Tony
Ling in SHA, as well as some VCs and other friends.

I usually travel to China 2-3 times per year; this trip, I detected
something different. Businesses and management are becoming much more
local, and the local management is getting much smarter and more
sophisiticated. The areas where haigui can bring more to the table
are becoming smaller and less frequent. This means that opportunities
for haigui where they can add meaningful value will become fewer.

Great article on the pitfalls of annuity

I read a great article regarding pitfalls of annuities from the September issue of Money magzine. Pay special attention to the EIA (equity indexed annuity as I am sure that if you have not been pitched with one already, you will sooner or later) . I think the concept applies to EIUL (equity indexed universal life) as well (?)
